Welcome back, lovely mamas! You’ve made it to Day 28 of the 30-Day Mindfulness Challenge, and today we’re diving into the art of Mindful Movement.
You’re probably thinking, “Wait, isn’t that just exercising with a fancy name?”
Well, kind of—but with a splash of intention and a sprinkle of calm!
Whether it’s yoga, a simple walk, or just stretching between chasing the kids, today we’re going to focus on how our bodies feel while moving. Ready to shake things up (mindfully, of course)?
Moving with Purpose, Not Just to Burn Calories
Let’s be real, as moms, we move a lot.
From picking up toys to dashing out the door because someone forgot their lunch (again), movement is part of our daily life. But when was the last time you moved your body with awareness?
I was part of a Somatic Movement group for 12 weeks and I’m not sure I can put into words how absolutely life changing intentional movement can be!
Instead of rushing through your day like you’re in a mom-marathon, see if you can slow down today and notice each sensation.
- Feel the ground under your feet when you walk.
- Pay attention to how your muscles stretch and contract.
- Let your breath guide the rhythm of your body.
Each movement is like a little love letter to yourself. Trust me, your body will thank you for paying attention.
Yoga, Walks, or Wiggles—Your Choice!
Don’t worry, mindful movement isn’t a one-size-fits-all thing.
You don’t need to be an expert yogi or go for a 5-mile hike (unless that is your thing). You can move mindfully in so many ways:
- Yoga: A few sun salutations or even some gentle stretching will do. Just focus on your breath and how your body feels in each pose.
- Walking: Put down your phone (or at least turn off the notifications) and go for a short walk. Pay attention to how the air feels on your skin, the rhythm of your steps, and the movement of your breath.
- My littles like to jump over cracks or try to balance on curbs when we go out mindful walking. It’s a little more active, but they are paying attention to everything around them!
- Stretching: Even a couple of minutes of stretching in the living room while the kids watch their favorite show counts. Focus on how each stretch feels and how your muscles react. See if you can wake up your entire body today.
Whatever form of movement you choose, the goal isn’t to break a sweat—it’s to bring awareness to your body and breath.
Plus, the kids might join in, and you’ll have yourself a mini mindful dance party. Bonus points!
The Power of Mindful Movement
So, why does this even matter? How is mindful movement any different from “normal” exercise?
Here’s the magic:
When you move mindfully, you’re not just working out your body; you’re calming your mind.
By focusing on how you feel while you move, you’ll notice a sense of peace washing over you. Your mind quiets, and suddenly, those endless to-do lists seem a little less overwhelming.
Mindful movement is also a chance to reconnect with your body in a loving way.
Let’s be honest, we moms can be a little hard on ourselves, right?
This is your moment to appreciate everything your body does for you. It carried your babies, chases them around, and still keeps you standing tall (most days).
What to Expect After Today’s Challenge
After Day 28, you may notice your body feels more relaxed, less tense, and maybe even more energized (yes, really!).
When you bring mindfulness into your movement, you’re telling your body, “I see you. I appreciate you.” You can even give yourself a little hug to solidify your body appreciation!
And here’s the best part – the benefits don’t stop with today.
Keep moving mindfully throughout this 30-Day Challenge, and you’ll start noticing changes in both your mind and body. More calm, more clarity, and maybe even a little more patience with the chaos of motherhood.
Share Your Journey & Let’s Move Together!
I’d love to hear how your mindful movement practice goes today!
Did you take a walk? Stretch in the living room? Attempt some yoga while dodging toy blocks?
Whatever it was, share it with me on social media using the hashtag #alignedasamother.
We’re all in this challenge together, and I’m here to cheer you on every step of the way. (And yes, I will be stretching alongside you between diaper changes.)
xoxo, Angie
