If you’ve been following the blog for a while, you’ve already set some intentions and dipped your toes into mindfulness. Today, we’re taking things a step further by focusing on the Power of Gratitude.

Gratitude isn’t just some fluffy, feel-good buzzword. Although it is nice that more people are learning about it! It’s like a secret superpower that rewires your brain for positivity.

And let’s face it, as moms, we could all use a little extra positivity when the toys are scattered across the living room like confetti, right?

What Is Gratitude, Anyway?

Gratitude is simply acknowledging the good in your life, even when things feel chaotic.

It’s easy to focus on what’s going wrong (spilled juice, broken toys, and never-ending laundry piles), but today, we’re flipping the script. You don’t have to wait for the “perfect” moment to feel grateful.

Spoiler alert: There’s always something to be thankful for, even if it’s just hot coffee that didn’t go cold.

Why Gratitude Is a Game-Changer for Moms

Practicing gratitude is like a magic reset button for your mood.

When you take a moment to appreciate what you have, you’re rewiring your brain to focus on the positive instead of the negative. And trust me, after a day of toddler tantrums or teen attitude, that mental shift can be life-changing.

So, what can you expect after today’s practice? Here’s the lowdown:

  • More Positivity: Shifting your focus to the good things can brighten even the most challenging day.
  • Mindful Moments: You’ll start noticing small, joyful moments you used to overlook. That baby giggle? Pure gold.
  • Less Stress: Gratitude helps you stay present, making you feel more grounded and less like a frazzled mess.

How to Get Started: 3 Things You’re Grateful For

This practice is simple but powerful.

Grab your favorite journal, your phone’s notes app, or the back of a receipt (we’re keeping it real here).

Now, take a moment to reflect on three things you’re grateful for. They don’t have to be big, life-changing moments. Even tiny blessings count!

Here are a few ideas to get your gratitude wheels turning:

  • The sound of your child’s laughter. It’s like music to your ears, especially when you’re not cleaning up a mess right after!
  • That moment of peace you get during nap time. Even if it’s just 10 minutes to sip a cup of tea, it’s all yours.
  • Your support system. Whether it’s your partner, a friend, or a fellow mom who just gets it, these people are priceless.

Got your three things? Awesome! Writing them down makes the practice stick.

Plus, it gives you a list of happy moments to revisit on tough days when you need a pick-me-up. Flipping through an old gratitude journal can be a great way to remember the past week, month, or even year.

I keep my family’s gratitude journal by our kitchen table, and each night we all say what we’re grateful for and our favorite part of the day.

My current favorite thing my child is grateful for: the color red!

The Science Behind Gratitude

I tend to geek out over how all of this works, so let’s get a little science-y for a sec.

Did you know that gratitude actually rewires your brain?!

Studies show that practicing gratitude can increase your overall happiness and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. It’s like a natural mood booster—no extra caffeine required. (Although, I still recommend keeping your coffee nearby!)

Once you’ve learned how to practice gratitude – and do it regularly, your brain starts looking for the good automatically.

Instead of focusing on that pile of laundry, you might catch yourself smiling at the way your child’s mismatched socks have their own quirky charm.

It’s a total mindset shift, and it’s one that can make all the difference.

Share Your Gratitude and Connect with Me!

Gratitude is contagious! (In the best way, of course.)

If you’re feeling the positive vibes, share your three things on social media using the hashtag #alignedasamother. Let’s inspire each other to focus on the good, no matter how big or small.

And hey, I’d love to hear from you! What are you grateful for today?

Drop me a comment or send me a message on social media. Let’s keep the conversation going and lift each other up. Every mom needs a supportive village – let’s create the one we want to be a part of!

xoxo, Angie
