Motherhood can be one of the most beautiful and transformative journeys, but it can also feel incredibly lonely at times.
Today, I’m excited to share a heartfelt guest post from Kate and Sam, co-hosts of Girl’s Night with Sam & Kate Podcast, where they openly share their struggles and triumphs, and help us overcome loneliness in motherhood.
Both moms bring their unique stories and experiences, offering comfort, encouragement, and faith-filled wisdom for those moments when motherhood feels isolating.
Kate, a mom of four little ones under five, speaks from a place of deep faith, drawing on the lessons she’s learned from her challenging childhood and early days of motherhood.
Sam, also a mom of four, shares her experience with postpartum challenges and how being open with her husband and leaning on her faith helped her find strength.
Together, they remind us that no matter how lonely motherhood feels, we are never truly alone. I know their stories will resonate with so many of you. Let’s dive in!

Overcoming Loneliness in Motherhood
Hello, I’m Kate, or as my friends and family like to call me, Kaitlyn. I usually am not a nickname kind of person, but when Sam and I started our podcast, it just felt right.
I’m 26, I have 4 kids under 5, and I’ve been married to my best friend for seven years. People describe us as “fly by the seat of our pants” kind of people, but really, we’re just trying our best to follow God’s guidance for our family.
Today, I want to share my experience with loneliness in motherhood.
My Childhood and the Foundation of My Faith
I grew up in a broken home. My parents divorced when I was 10, leaving me to step into the role of caregiver for my younger siblings.
My childhood was filled with hardship, but it was also filled with love and help from others—both here on Earth and beyond.
I truly believe angels have been sent to me multiple times to comfort me when no one else could. Those experiences shaped my deep faith and trust in God.
The Isolation of Motherhood and the Power of Prayer
Motherhood has been the biggest blessing of my life, but it has also brought up many unhealed parts of myself.
I’ve struggled with feelings of abandonment and isolation. After the birth of my first baby, those feelings hit me hard.
In my darkest moments, I prayed.
I asked God for comfort and was met with His peace in ways I’ll never forget—sometimes through a loving hug from my Savior, other times through a perfectly timed text from a friend.
I’ve learned there are no coincidences.
Practical Ways to Overcome Loneliness in Motherhood
If you’re feeling alone, I want to share three things that have helped me:
- Pray – Tell God exactly how you feel, no matter how raw or messy it is. He listens.
- Serve Your Children – This one might sound strange, but there’s something powerful about slowing down and focusing on small acts of love, like washing your children’s feet or giving them a bath.
- Give Yourself Grace – Stop being so hard on yourself. It’s okay to feel sad, lonely, or overwhelmed. Feel the feelings, but don’t dwell on them.
Sam’s Story: Finding Help Through God and Her Husband
Hey everyone, I’m Sam! Isn’t Kate the best? Her raw honesty is so refreshing.
As a mom of four girls, I’ve had my share of dark moments, too.
Postpartum brought on intrusive thoughts and OCD that I didn’t know how to navigate. I felt so alone.
What helped me through? Two things:
- Rely on God – His help didn’t come the way I expected, but it came in ways that gave me peace.
- Be Open with Your Spouse – My husband was my rock. By letting him into my struggles, he was able to support me in ways I desperately needed.
You Are Not Alone
Our hope in sharing these stories is to remind you that you are not alone.

Motherhood isn’t Meant to be Lonely
Thank you so much to Kate and Sam for sharing such raw and honest stories.
Motherhood is full of challenges, and their words are a beautiful reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is light and connection waiting for us.
I went through a lot of Postpartum Anxiety with my littles, and I was afraid to even leave the house with them at first. Life got so much better when I started inviting friends over – even though my hair was dirty and my house was a disaster!
Eventually I felt well enough to sit on the front porch. Then that led to walking to the mailbox, and soon we were strolling to the closest Starbucks!
If you’re feeling isolated or struggling in your own journey, take Sam & Kate’s advice to heart—reach out to someone you trust, offer yourself grace, and don’t be afraid to lean on your faith and loved ones for support.
You could also search Facebook for groups with moms in a similar season by entering your baby’s birth month and year, like “January 2025 Moms”.
Local mom meetups can also be a game-changer—try checking event boards, local parenting websites, or social media for upcoming gatherings.
I also recently heard about The New Mom School that has in-person classes and resources to connect you with other moms!
Another thing to try is reaching out to local midwife or doula groups, as they often host postpartum meetups where you can find understanding and support from other moms navigating the same challenges.
Taking that first step might feel intimidating, but those connections are so worth it!
I hope that you’re able to find a support group, lean on friends and family, and ask for help when you need it!
